Generator Removal at 80 The Strand
Generator Removal at 80 The Strand
Precision, Planning, and Problem-Solving in Action
Following the successful completion of our crane lifts at 80 The Strand, we were entrusted with another critical task: the dismantling and removal of two 4-ton generators. This complex operation required meticulous planning, innovative problem-solving, and seamless coordination with our trusted partners to navigate multiple logistical challenges.
Gaining Access: Overcoming Structural Barriers
Before we could remove the generators, we needed a way to access the generator room. The only viable option was to remove a large section of louver panels from the exterior wall. Working in close collaboration with our trusted scaffold provider, we constructed a bespoke scaffold platform at the exact height of the louver opening. Carefully engineered to support the weight of the generator sections, this platform provided a stable and secure working area, ensuring the safe removal of the equipment.
Dismantling in a Confined Space
With access secured, the next challenge lay in dismantling the generators within the confined space of the generator room. Overhead pipework and restricted movement meant that a standard approach wouldn’t be feasible. Instead, our team installed a gantry system with chain tackles to lift and manoeuvre each generator section safely.
Each generator was methodically broken down into manageable sections, lifted off its base with precision, and carefully guided out of the room. Our team’s expertise and problem-solving skills were key in navigating the tight space while ensuring that the surrounding infrastructure remained undamaged.
Safe and Controlled Transport
Once dismantled, each generator section was carefully transferred onto the scaffold platform. From there, a forklift equipped with fork extensions was used to lift and transport the sections to the loading area. One of the most significant challenges of this phase was managing the steep incline leading from the scaffold platform down to the transport vehicles.
With careful coordination, our experienced forklift operator and lift-and-shift team worked together to navigate the incline safely. Each generator section was then loaded onto transport vehicles for efficient removal and disposal.
Expanding Our Scope: Additional Work Secured
The successful execution of the generator removal took approximately five days. The quality and efficiency of our work left a lasting impression on the client, who subsequently entrusted us with additional tasks, including the dismantling and removal of overhead pipework and extraction fans. This reflected not only our technical expertise but also our ability to adapt to diverse project demands with confidence and precision.
A Testament to Versatility and Excellence
This project was a true showcase of our ability to execute complex dismantling and removal operations in challenging environments. By collaborating effectively with partners, adapting to confined working conditions, and prioritising safety at every stage, we delivered a seamless and efficient outcome.
Conclusion: Raising the Bar in Complex Lifting and Removal
The generator removal at 80 The Strand stands as a testament to our team’s resourcefulness, technical ability, and commitment to excellence. Through innovative techniques and strong communication with stakeholders, we not only completed the project to the highest standard but also secured further work—reinforcing our reputation as a trusted partner for high-stakes lifting and removal operations.
